My best tip is to reuse one reusable water bottle instead of buying and throwing away a new one all the time.
Thanks bringing my attention to the upcoming earth day. I love the water bottle and the bag. Idea for an activity with your kids: Take some of your recycling and make something useful. My daughter and I are using a granola bar box (Costco size), decorating it w/ pictures from magazines, catalogs, etc. and turning it into a backpack for school on earth day. It's a fun way to show your children how to reuse and recycle.

One of my new favorite tips is how to recycle all those free goft makeup bags you probably have stashed in the bathroom--- use them in the diaper bag to hold small items! Some are even lined and could hold snacks if washed properly. Cute AND functional as well as saving the planet...no more plastic baggies for me!

Our family will be bringing containers from home for leftover resturant food. We are trying cloth diapers instead of disposables. What a great giveaway! My tips are 1) reusable grocery bags are huge must do. Have you ever paid attention to how many bags build up otherwise? Eeek! and 2) you really don't need any chemical cleaners in the house. There are alternatives for pretty much every purpose, readily available now and not overly expensive. A great giveaway! My green tip is to think reusable - every time I reach for a ziploc for a takealong snack in the diaper bag, I see if I have a reusable container that would work instead.

We try to do lots of little things: wash clothes in cold water, use dryer balls to shorten drying times, using compact fluorescents in all our light fixtures.
Also, I do most of my children's clothing shopping in consignment stores, and my husband reuses old reports from his business as our printer paper and drawing paper for our girls.

This is a great giveaway! I try to do all I can to recycle, reduce, reuse, especially with a 3 week old baby. We are doing cloth diapers, breastfeeding, and natural detergents and cleaners (like baking soda). For years I've also kept cloth bags in my trunk to take with me while shopping.

We also grow a garden in the summer and freeze many things to use in the winter, like tomatoes for tomato sauce, green peppers, etc. We recycle everything we can, and also have a compost pile for leftover scraps. I recently began taking my own storage containers when we go out to eat. I sometimes get funny looks when I start putting our leftovers into them, but the fact that I'm not using all those nasty foam products makes it worth it.
I reuse plastic grocery bags for tote bags and garbage bags.

Happy Earth day!, I have a new Grandbaby and have shared many of the "natural" ways I took care of my babies with my daughter (which was her), from cloth diapers; which are much easier today to use; to making my own baby food. My best tip, would be to buy a baby food mill for making baby food. I bought one for my daughter called Kidco, they have a manual one and an electric one. Then cook ahead, and store the baby food in ice cube trays, or grind up what your cooking for dinner. Babies love it and you can control what they eat, and they get use to eating what the whole family is eating. The manual grinder can even be taken to Grandmothers house. What a great giveaway and cool site! Being green is easy if you follow the three R's: reduce, reuse, recycle. The first is easy, but the second is my favorite I love coming up with ways to reuse objects. If you're a knitter like myself, you can take old plastic bags and actually knit a reuseable tote for groceries or just as a cool handbag. Also, I always hold on to plastic containers from chinese food, butter, etc, and reuse them. However they don't stand the test of time, but don't throw them out yet! These are great to start seeds in. The containers keep the humidity in and then you can transfer the seedlings to pots and have a great organic garden.

this is great! my tip is to start taking navy showers if you want to cut back on water. basically you wet your body and then turn off the water. then you soap up and lather your hair. then turn on the water to rinse and turn it off!

I always try to recycle as much stuff as possible, I give my kids old clothes to their cousins or sell it on e-bay or craigslist. Most years I have a garage sale to get rid of things I can't use anymore and whatever is left over afterwards gets donated to Salvation Army. I'd rather give things away than throw them away.
We teach our daughter to turn the water off when she brushes her teeth. No use wasting the water while the toothbrush is in the mouth.

This has got to be the most AMAZING giveaway that I have ever seen! The fact that so many people have been rallying around the idea of making our lives "greener" really warms my heart! Here is a green tip for anyone interested -- we make our own fabric softner for the washing machine, and we can add any scent we like to it! You can make a lot of it very inexpensively and it makes your clothes unbelievably soft! Search for "make your own fabric softener" to find lots of recipes!

I think it's important for people not to be overwhelmed by all the thing we can do to be "green". If you're one who is not used to thinking about making environmentally friendly changes, take baby steps and do a little at a time. A small gesture is better than doing nothing.

Another tip: when your husband's ready to clear out his closet, retrofit his clothing to make cute duds for the kids...often in patterns you wouldn't think of, especially for little girls.

I snazzed up my reusable grocery bags with some beading...didn't want to be green and boring at the same time! Also, instead of buying 50 million spring water bottles, invest in a water cooler for your home, fresh spring water without all the plastic waste...
we have started using glass bowls and cups, instead of plastic. i've cut down to only doing laundry on weekends and using laundry tabs instead of bottle detergent. we use soap thats phosphate free.

The biggest change I have made this year is installing a water purification system in my house. I know use a SIGG bottle instead of buying loads of Fiji water! Over time, the money I have saved from buying bottled water will pay for the purifier!

invest in an eco shower spout. I spent $10 more than a regular one because it was the only spout I could find that used 2 gallons per minute. My water bill has been atleast $5 dollares less every month since.

In the summer hang sheets and towels on a clothes line to dry instead of using an electric dryer.
My tip is to plant a tree to celebrate your child's birth and then use your home composting practises to show him/her how composting will help the tree thrive.

What a fabulous mama-business giveaway! We do several "green" things- cloth diapers (which are so cute and easy nowadays!) and reusable grocery bags are just the beginning. We also recently cconverted to all natural cleaning products and love them!
This is an incredible giveaway. I would love any of the products for my new grandson.I buy economy packages of meat and wrap them in my saved vegetable bags. I use jars and margarine containers instead of plastic wrap and I turn all my printer paper over for reuse.
we make all of our snacks, from granola to yogurt instead of snack pacs. we compost everything we can to make our front garden bloom. no plastic bags of any sort or house. we also try to buy as local as we can. great giveaway it is nice to see moms so interested in teaching their families to be more conscience of their choices!!!

Thanks for the contest! We've started buying glass, paper or other packaging versus plastic and making special trips to the recyling center since our town doesn't pick the recycling up.
What a great giveaway and all these fabulous green products! My best green tip since having kids is to give modern cloth diapering a try! They are no longer the pins and cloth but lots of fun patterns, velcro and stay-dry fabrics!

Our house rules are reuse, recycle, less electricity,avoid plastics, natural is better.
we have always shopped at garage sales for things for ourselves, kids and grandkids. We are trying to be more aware of the little things that we can do and carry our own bags to the store, have put in energy efficient lights, etc.
I make my own cleaner Vinegar and water and sometimes I use baking soda and Lemon. I also reuse the container.

Besides the usual stuff, I like to teach my kids how important it is to take care of the planet God has blessed us with. Since they love Polar Bears, we use it as a reminder phrase whenever they are running the water too long or not turning off the lights when they leave a room. We just say "polar bears." And they know that they can do their part to conserve energy and maybe even help save a polar bear.

Buying a Brita Water pitcher or water filter keeps thousands of water bottles out of landfills each year! :D We just got one. I think the water tastes thousands times better than bottled water!

Most people give up on being eco friendly because they feel that they have to spend entirely too much money to start! Using Vinegar and Baking soda for most of your cleaning needs saves money AND time. Baking your own bread insures that you know EXACTLY what is going into your children's bodies. Buying cloth diapers saves you hundreds over the long term with infants, they can be reused for subsequent kids and with the new tech in diapers today, is nearly as easy as disposibles!
Buying these things in bulk saves TONS of money so you can put your budget to other things, like organic clothing, and biodiesel and hybrid vehicles, and living debt free!

Join a CSA ... every other week we get a box of organic fruits & veggies from a local farm. They taste much better than anything you can get at a supermarket, last much longer, and we are helping our local farms stay open.

We recycle as much as possible, reuse containers a lot and reduce our waste. My daughter has her friends over for neighborhood clean up days where they pick up all the trash. Earth day is a BIG day around here.

Recycle everything you can. There's probably more that you can be recycling than you think. Re-using is even better. Instead of recycling old magazines, I keep a canvas tote bag in our bedroom behind the door. I put the magazines in there and I grab the bag when I go somewhere where I can leave them (The laundry mat, Doctor's Office, Used Bookstore at the library...).
Just remember to cut off your address. Plastic bags cannot be recycled curbside here, but many stores will take them and have collection bins for them. I like most people say I use them for everything, but after giving it more thought, I realized I use them to collect trash and then stick the half full bags into a larger trash bag.
Junk mail can also be recycled. Shred first if you're worried about security. I have heard some places cannot recycle the little plastic windows in the envelopes though, so it's best to check beforehand.
